7:00pm:  ADHD and Anxiety: A Chicken and the Egg Dilemma?
               with Alan J. Zametkin, MD

Dr. Zametkin will discuss the similarities and differences between Anxiety and ADHD in children adolescents and Adults. The two disorders share many similarities and differences and can easily be confused. They may be found in the same individuals and the treatment of individuals with both disorders differs from those who have only one. The possibility that one conditions leads to the other will be discussed. A common medical condition that any lay person can diagnose always needs to be considered when anxiety AND ADHD coexist. The role of psychometric testing will be discussed and usefulness in diagnoses of these conditions.

Dr Zametkin is an internationally recognized clinician, clinical investigator and former academic child adolescent and adult psychiatrist. After spending 30 years at the National Institute of Mental Health where he evaluated, studied and treated both children and adults with ADHD, he spent three years as a civilian treating military families at Bethesda Naval Hospital and Ft Meade. He has had his own private practice in Bethesda for 32 years and currently practices at Chesapeake ADHD Center with locations in Silver Spring, Columbia and Annapolis.

His education included a BA at Amherst College, MD at Brown University, Pediatric Internship Stanford University and adult Psychiatry Training at U.C.L.A. His child psychiatry fellowship was done at Washington DC’s Children’s National Medical Center. He is board certified in both Adult and Child Psychiatry.
